Kim, born and raised in Wilmington, is a mother of an adult son. She’s long been aware of the Habitat program but thought it was only for women with small children. After recommending the program to women at work, Kim did a bit of research and realized, “I qualify! You don’t need kids!” After sitting with the application for a few months, Kim decided to turn it in and was approved, saying, “It was so rewarding to hear I had been approved.”
After attending budgeting classes, helping out on job sites, and meeting staff and other homeowners, construction began on Kim’s home in Haven Place in October 2024. “Everybody is super, super nice…I have so many pictures in my phone still of us out there on site, working, and getting to know each other, and having a great time.”
Kim’s dream of homeownership is rooted in stability and legacy. “It’s an investment in what I want to be mine, something to call my own, leaving a legacy for my grandchild, having somewhere where I can entertain and not have to worry about someone else’s property.” She is investing in herself, her future, and her grandson’s future. Kim encourages anyone who is considering applying to “Just jump on it. Do it. It’s real rewarding to be with a group that values you just as much as you value yourself.”
